So basically I just book my ticket to Amsterdam when I get in Brussels and that's it? I don't need reservations on any other trains? Sorry I'm bugging you with this I'm just extremely insecure as I've never really travelled before.

you dont need a reservation brussels - amsterdam, use the normal IC train not the Thalys... ill look again in the morning at your other trains

Hi,

I want to travel Istanbul-Skopje in mid-July. (Istanbul-Thessaloniki-Skopje)
In Thessaloniki i will have roughly 25 minutes to buy a ticket for the train to Skopje. The bahn.de website doesn't mention anything about reservations on that train, but if it's required, do you think I'll manage to get a ticket before it leaves? Anything in general about reservations and buying tickets in Greece would be appreciated

I would like to travel from Paris to Zermatt, I will have a 22 day continuous interrail pass. I cant find how much the supplement will be for this journey.

if you then carry on by IR/R train there is not suppliment

Im also interested in going from zermatt to st moritz using the glacier express route, ive looked on the forum but im struggling to work out whether or not i get a reduction on the ticket for this with a railcard?

if you are a youth (under 26) you get a 50% reduction for the first section, then 100% for the second. You have to pay a reservation on top of that of CHF10 per section.

a 100% reduction - you pay nothing apart from the CHF10 reservation

I have to by the global pass, plus pay the supplements, and also pay reservations? i mean, i have to pay reservation in each train?
what is the reservation cost?

1) but the InterRail Pass
2) on some special high speed trains you have to pay a supplement: all are listed here
3) on mist trains you do not have to pay a supplement
4) you can do your tour of Europe without any supplements. have a look at the train schedules - there is also mentioned, how to avoid the high speed trains: click here
5) don't panic - InterRail is a really cheap solution to travel Europe by train - you can reach nearly every place in Europe - you are flexible - you are free.

if you need a supplement for a train, it is at the same time a reservation for a seat.
if you do not need a supplement, you can buy in most cases a reservation - but normally you can save the money and just take a seat somewhere.

Ooook. So, to make this very clear and basic... When you head up to the ticket window in the train station (because say I don't wan't to pay the extra charges online, since it seems like such a freakin hassle), show your Interrail pass to the staff, they charge an amout of money that includes BOTH supplements AND a reservation that is required on the specific train I want to travel with? If yes, in what form do I get my payment for reservation/supplements confirmed? A regular paper "ticket"? If yes, when I've gotten on the train I just show the conductor my Interrail pass AND the reservation/supplement "ticket"?
So, in short: Interrail pass + ticketwindow at train station + reciept that I have paid all the extra charges + hop on the train + show the conductor all my tickets and + finally just enjoy the ride.
Am I right here? Cause I can't make my question any more clear, lol.

Well then that's just pretty damn awesome. Sounds ridiculously easy. If this work just as easy as I'm now imagening it I almost feel a bit ashamed to have feared going. Reading the answers here has made it sound so complicated, but if the answer to all my questions is "yes" I might as well head to the trainstation tomorrow morning and jump on a train, without worries.

Btw, I'm thinking about my trip so much that today when I'm off work (which is unbelievably rare...) I even dreamt about train schedules and supplements when I fell asleep on my couch just after my previous post this afternoon... and this is coming from someone who usually dreams about the most freaky stuff that has nothing to do with reality.
Anyway, thanks for clearing things up for me!
