How to buy a RESERVATION:

You can buy a reservation online as long as either the DEPARTURE or ARRIVAL STATION is in GERMANY.
The charge for the delivery of the tickets by postal service is: EUR 3.50
An online ticket is also possible.

How to do (for the English version of the website):
1) Visit this website of the Deutsch Bahn: click here
2) Fill in the journey you want to travel, the date and time.
3) Press -> search
4) You will see a list of trains - select the one (has to be a direct train) marked as CNL (=CityNightLine) check availability
5) Sometimes the system asks then for your age - it is not important for the reservation, but fill it in - there is also an extra field. Keep it with "no reduction". Press refresh and do it again like at step (4).
6) Now you see the list of the different types of seats, couchettes and beds you can book. But still at the normal high fares. Select the button at the bottom beside the red one called Book only extra charge
7) On the next page select Pass offer (InterRail, Eurail, other pass offer) and then -> Continue
8) Select the type of seat/bed you want and press Book selected offer

On the next steps you have to fill in your personal data and make the payment.

European train schedules: rail-timetable-europe-train-schedule-t1025.html

Official Eurail (Non-Europeans and persons with a stay less than 6 months in Europe) passes via: http://shop.eurailer.net
IR = traveling with an INTERRAIL or EURAIL pass
FULL FARE = 2nd (1st) class full fare. Limited special offers available: buy them early - up to 3 months in advance - you are fixed on dates then and lost your flexibility.

Hello, I visited the booking website, but I couldn't find any button or link called "Book only extra charge". Has this procedure changed?

Hi!

No, the procedure is still the same - I just checked again. For what train are you trying to get a reservation?

Hi!

I tried to book, but I couldn't see the "book only extra charge" button. I want to travel from Berlin to Paris on 14/07/2010. Any idea?

And can you explain to me what"s the difference between the "bed" and "couchette"?

Thank you very much!!

Hi.
I just tried it and it worked well. The button is a bit hidden. It doesn't have a red background, it is just normal text.

Seats are still available for EUR 4.
6 persons couchetter: EUR 20
4 persons couchette: EUR 30

The difference: as more expensive it gets, as more comfortable it is.
But the 6 persons couchettes are enough to sleep if you spent the next night in a hostel... don't waste your money - except if you are rich. ;)

What's the difference between the standard seats and the seats in an open plan coach? I've heard there are reclinable seats that are quite alright for sleeping on, so I guess this could be them? Just trying to save some pennies rather than spending 27€ on a night train...

Hi!

If you pay 4€ for your seat you'll be travelling in 6-seats compartments like often still in use in day trains. You cant recline or move them in any way so you will have to sit upright during the night. Only if you are lucky and the comparment is empty you can lie down using three seats for one person plus one one the floor.
If you pay 10€ you'll be travelling in an open coach with reclining seats which can be moved back individually. They are much more comfortable than the regular seats... :)

Hi everyone,
I'd like to book a ticket for Hamburg-Copenhagen, but it's not a CNL. Does that mean I cannot buy that connection online? I checked the Deutsche Bahn website, but I can't find the InterRail discount?

Hi!

You cant make a reservation for this connection online (I assume you want to take a direct ICE train?). But it isnt neccessary anyway, you can board the ICE free with your InterRail ticket. If you wanna make a reservation you have to do it at a station. :)

Hey,

weìre trying to book a reservation for train: budapeste - munique online for the 8th of august but we see no button next to the red one saying extra charges .. does this mean we cant book online' the option we wanted is a direct train railijet.. this we have to reserve right? and its 10eur? oh and even the buying options are just by mail.. but we're not in like a fixed place as we're travelling so this would not be possble for us.. is it not possible at all through internet or some other way..

thanks in advance

Hello,
I am currently planning my trip across europe.
I am looking to book the extra supplement on the night train from vienna to munich on the 12th of september.
However when i go through booking all that is currently avaliable is a seat or a bed. However I am trying to book a seat for both me a male and my partner who is female. It then asks the sex of the passengers as cabins are not mixed but you can only select the sex of one person. How do i go about getting us both a bed or do i just need to book them both seprately.
Regards

@marjosof: for a Railjet (which is a day train) you do not need a reservation. You can use them for free with InterRail.
If you want a reservation, you can buy it as well at a station somewhere in Austria or as well in Germany, Switzerland, ...
